I hated as a kid my mom would makes us go to the church's lame "Harvest fest" on Halloween...Instead of trick or treating....All the "dark" and "evil" part of? Halloween were not allowed......And now I sit in a room with Halloween masks decorated around, and have Marlyn Manson's cover of "This is Halloween" going through my head........How do you like me now mommy?!?!?

The christians of the time couldn't get the pagans who converted to stop celebrating cerian holidays, Saturnalia included. So the mixed things with it to make them celebrate what they? wanted them to. So really we have pagans to thank for stockings/shoes being stuffed with goodies and Holloween being a fun ghost and demon filled day. That's why even though I am christian, I will always had a deep respect and love for them.

Thanks for the reference to the phrase "mediterranean death cult". I hadn't heard that before. I was so? tired of saying "Abrahamic religions" and having people have no clue that they are all related, and having to explain. Mediterranean death cults sounds so much better, and is so much more appropriate. :)

Catholics were the reason Hitler was raised to hate Jews, and Hitler and the Catholic church supported eachother while Hitler was in power. Hitler made teacher teach Christian concepts in public schools and persecuted homosexuals....to show his loyalty to the Catholic church where? he learned his values.

In this case the Nazis are like the Christian Institution, both picked things from other groups and changed there meaning for? their purposes, so if anyone see a swastika, think it is about nazism, and if anyone sees santa claus or the eastern bunny, thinks it is christian, and both would be wrong, and yet they criticize something that it is pagan for them, and for that it is wrong, when on their own traditions there are things from pagan cultures, it's just hypocritical

well there are plenty of Christans who don't celebrate Easter or Christmas for exactly this reason, so before you make such a claim more info is needed, but yes its damn hypocritical if they do, and shows a good amount of ignorance? of their own 'faith'.

I am an? Atheist and I celebrate all the holidays, not because I believe in zombie Jesus Christ but because I think there fun. I don't believe that most kids even know what the holidays are suposed to represent and to me that's just fine. I still think the kids should get to enjoy holidays, just like I did when I was a kid.

@B0SSMANRulez ever formed on the face of the planet. Are you telling me that a person who wears a swastika embodies its original meaning over it's intended meaning now? I believe the same can apply to these symbolic gestures at Christmas, Easter, AND Halloween. I still choose not to have a Christmas tree (we have a large nativity scene)? or Easter Bunnies/Baskets (we just have Easter Dinner) and I don't normally dress up for Halloween.

@B0SSMANRulez You? are correct that Christmas and Easter both take place ("coincidentally") on the solstice and equinox holidays respectively. That does not mean they are pagan holidays!!!!!! Now I'm sure you'd love to point out all the wonderful pagan traditions that Christians have adopted from these pagan holidays into their own....and that's fine. Let me tell you a wonderful story about a swastika. Originally a symbol of peace and goodwill, now the symbol of one of the most diabolic groups...

I preferred halloween to christmas even before I discovered Pantheism ( which some people will just call Pagan but meh. I don't care). It's so? much fun! dressing up is fun, plus chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! my only complaint about halloween is the fact that the Candy/Sweet companies Don't think to cater for adults and make dark/plain chocolate themed yummies. So I end up making them myself :P who wants a rum and dark chocolate covered apple?!!!
